Fixing the Textbook Model — Campus Technology

This week I read an article called Beyond The Terra-cotta Warriors and generally it was a main overview of what the terracotta warriors were but didn’t go into much detail. When looking further into the author of the article I found out that the author was a student at Vassar college, completing this article as part of an ongoing assignment. Essentially what Dr D has you do if you miss class and can’t attend it virtually that’s what this article was. While the article did fulfill its purpose for the audience it was very dry and not thought provoking. At no point in reading the article was I encouraged to think about the terracotta warriors in a broader sense. On Thursday class Tim Clarke came and gave an introduction about pressbooks. He also gave an overview on what the common creative copyright license was which explained how we were writing this textbook according to copyright laws. He gave examples of helpful resources that would be beneficial when creating and editing the textbook and went into detail about creating a glossary. Honestly, it was a lot of information to take in but it was interesting to hear about all the options we have for editing the textbook.

There’s not really anything on my to-do list except to enjoy fall break. Maybe I’ll take a deeper look at the textbook in the chapters we’ve read so far to see if there’s anything that jumps out at me that needs to be edited or fixed in some way. An idea I had for something we could add to the textbook is a game that helps you learn the correlations for each of the five phases

A question I have is what are the best ways to describe images for alternative text? Is there a certain language you should be using? I just want to know to how best describe images and make them more accessible.
